How much sugar do I need?
In addition to the amount you eat, how many grams of sugar do you need daily for each meal in order to reach target weight? To lose 1 pound (130-130 grams) you need about 35 grams of sugar and a little more than that for carbohydrates. You need about 21 grams of sugar for dessert every day. For example, a cup of tea contains anywhere between 1 and 3 grams of sugar and a small bag of almonds has roughly between 8 and 13 grams of sugar. So, if you drink a glass of green tea, you would only need about 180–240 milligrams of sugar and a single cup of water. Most people realize they need a few tablespoons of sugar per day but most people don’t realize they need at least the same amount every day for their daily meals.
Do you need more or less sugar than that for your favorite drink?
There is not a hard and fast rule to determine exactly how much sugar you should have for each beverage, but it is a safe bet if the calories are going to come from the sugars, so just add up the extra amount of sugar over the cups you had, shakes and smoothies, and other drinks you may consume.
Is there any difference in my blood sugar when I have an apple instead of fresh juice?
The American Diabetes Association recommends that adults have a goal blood sugar level that is considered a “healthy” one (not too high or low).
This means the sugar level you need each day to avoid type 2 diabetes. In the United States, one standard drink of red wine contains about 300 milligrams of sugar and a large portion of its calories come from carbon dioxide, which makes drinking red wine very unhealthy. Your average adult needs about 180–240 milligrams of sugar when you drink at home for a typical adult. Keep in mind the higher the sugar content of the beverages you consume, the greater the risk of heart disease or Type 2 diabetes.

Because excess sugar leads to insulin resistance. Insulin resistance is the root cause of metabolic diseases like type 2 diabetes.
If the body cannot make insulin, it will start making the wrong kind of insulin. And as with diabetes, you are at risk of getting diabetes “cured,” once again increasing your chances of developing it. According to medical experts, insulin resistance occurs when cells in the pancreas become resistant to insulin. Cells in the pancreatic ducts, called beta cells, produce insulin. When these cells become resistant, the body cannot use insulin properly, leading to insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes. Not all forms of diabetes are caused by insulin resistance, though it is the biggest culprit.
